Hypnobirthing Northern Ireland: Calm, Realistic Birth Preparation with an Experienced Midwife

pregnant woman and new baby

Are you pregnant? Have you heard about hypnobirthing but have no idea what it really is or what it does?

Are you worried about birth and how you will cope?

Well then welcome to Pregnancy Birth Beyond, you have came to the right place, my name is Lisa, a qualified midwife and Health Visitor based in Northern Ireland who loves all things birth and baby.

Let me help prepare you for the biggest life changing event of your life!

Pregnancy can bring excitement, anticipation and joy — but for many women, it also brings fear.

You may be worrying about:

  • how you will cope with labour pain

  • losing control during birth

  • induction or emergency cesarean

  • panic during labour

  • something going wrong

  • your partner not knowing how to support you

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone.

As a midwife for 18 years, I have supported hundreds of women through pregnancy and birth, and these fears are incredibly common.

Sadly, many women go into labour carrying fear, anxiety and unrealistic expectations about birth. Social media and traumatic birth stories often leave women feeling overwhelmed before labour has even started.

But proper birth preparation can make a huge difference.

That is why I created Pregnancy Birth Beyond — to provide calm, realistic and evidence-based hypnobirthing courses that help women and birth partners feel informed, supported and emotionally prepared for birth.

How Can Hypnobirthing Help?

Hypnobirthing is much more than breathing exercises.

It is a complete antenatal education programme designed to help you and your birth partner understand birth, reduce fear and feel more confident about labour.

Recent research by Lee et al 2026 highlights that hypnobirthing can shorten your labour, reduce medical interventions, reduce pain and improve birth outcomes and recovery.

My one day, face to face Hypnobirth course combines:

  • evidence-based birth education

  • breathing and relaxation techniques

  • understanding labour and birth physiology

  • practical coping strategies

  • birth partner preparation

  • mindset and confidence building

  • informed decision making

  • biomechanics to optimise a positive birth

The aim is not a “perfect birth", lets be real, birth is unpredictable, you can hope and plan to have your dream birth but unfortunately birth does not always run smoothly.

This is why preparation is so important, regardless of the mode of delivery, the aim of hypnobirthing and birth preparation is helping you feel:

  • calmer

  • informed

  • supported

  • emotionally prepared

  • more in control

…whatever path your birth takes.

Why My Hypnobirthing Course Is Different

There are many hypnobirthing courses available online now.

But what makes my course different is that it is taught through the lens of 18 years of real midwifery experience.

I have cared for women through:

  • straightforward births

  • inductions

  • emergencies

  • cesarean births

  • traumatic births

  • positive births

  • postnatal recovery

  • early parenting

I have seen first-hand how hypnobirthing can help women feel calmer and more confident during birth.

But I have also seen the emotional impact when women go into labour frightened, unsupported or completely unprepared for what may happen.

My course combines the KG Hypnobirth techniques along with my own twist which makes my courses:

  • realistic

  • warm and supportive

  • evidence-based

  • practical for real birth situations

  • designed for ALL births

  • honest and non-judgemental

I do not promise pain-free births.

I do not teach that hypnobirthing only works for home births or completely intervention-free births.

As an experienced midwife, I know birth can be unpredictable.

I love promoting normal birth but in reality in Northern Ireland, induction and emergency cesarean section rates are nearly at 50%, which is why it is so important to prepare for all types of birth. My course prepares women for:

PREGNANT WOMAN ON BIRTHING BALL

  • spontaneous labour

  • induction

  • epidurals

  • assisted births

  • cesarean birth

  • changes to plans

  • medical decision making

  • recovery after birth

I also cover all pain relief options honestly and without judgement because every woman deserves balanced information and support.

Epidurals absolutely have their place.

This course is about helping you feel informed and empowered — not pressured into one type of birth.

How Hypnobirthing Helps With Fear of Birth

Most women who come to my courses are fearful of birth, fear of the unknown and how they will cope and as a midwife I have witnessed how much fear affects birth.

When women feel frightened or panicked, the body releases stress hormones which can:

  • increase pain perception

  • make it harder to relax

  • increase exhaustion

  • interfere with labour progression

  • leave women feeling overwhelmed and out of control

Hypnobirthing helps break this fear-tension cycle.

The techniques taught during the course help women feel calmer, safer and more able to cope during labour.

Women often tell me they leave the course feeling:

  • `less frightened

  • more excited about birth

  • calmer and more informed

  • more confident in their choices

Birth partners often say they finally feel like they know how to help.

Is Hypnobirthing Only For 1st Time Mums?

Hypnobirthing is for anyone who wants to feel more confident for their birth.

Many women who attend my course are pregnant again after a previous traumatic birth experience.

Often they carry fear from:

  • feeling unheard

  • emergency situations

  • difficult recoveries

  • lack of preparation

  • loss of control during labour

Hypnobirthing cannot change the past.

But it can help women rebuild confidence, process previous fears and approach birth feeling calmer and more prepared this time.

Watching women move from fear to confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

Ready to Feel More Calm & Confident About Birth?

Birth does not have to feel terrifying.

With the right preparation, support and knowledge, you can approach your birth feeling calmer, more confident and more empowered.

At Pregnancy Birth Beyond, my hypnobirthing courses are designed to help you feel informed, supported and emotionally prepared for whatever path your birth takes suitable from 24weeks.
